The friends of Indian couple started fund online collection to help and support India couple Biju- Geena who seriously injured and lost everything in their house fire at Auckland on 4th July . As like most of the new Indian immigrants Geena Dominic and her husband Biju lived in the rented house on Mary Dreaver St in New Windsor. When Mrs Geena wake up on 6am early morning for preparing to go for her duty, there was sudden explosion with fire happened when she switch on the light.The primary investigations revealed that there was a gas leak from kitchen which caused the fire. . The explosion that ripped a central Auckland house apart in the early hours of July 4th morning has been linked to a gas leak – potentially ignited when an occupant turned on the lights.At midday fire investigators were only just entering the property, six hours after it exploded into flames .The occupants Geena Dominic- Biju trapped in the fire and survived the blaze , immediately admitted to hospital . Geena Dominic is moderately injured and admitted to Middle More Hospital and Biju who seriously injured who was admitted to Auckland City Hospital. They are not yet discharged, may take more than a month
The Indian couple requires long term treatment at Hospital, and they lost all documents, house equipments clothes, kitchen accessories. Moreover they may take few months to start to join again in their work. These couple do not have a content insurance. The incident has thus left the duo with no place to live, and the fire destroyed every possession in the house. They need at least next 6 month rent, living cost, clothes, money for bills, buy kitchen utensils, reapply to gain their lost documents
“They did not have content insurance and everything they had in the house, right from furniture to personal stuff, everything is destroyed,” Salesh Lal, a friend of the couple who started the Givealittle page said.
They MAY be entitled to some support from the Government. We want to support them even if they do get support from the Government as they will have many costs and the support from the Government may not cover everything. They did not have any contents insurance.
The funds will help Geena and Biju to start life over again. It will help them get back on a rental market as soon as they leave the hospital, and support them until they are able to get back to work.
The Givealittle page reads ‘New Windsor couple need help to start over’ has collected a few thousand dollars from more than 100 donors till 13th July.
