VARANASI: A 16-year-old girl student from New Zealand was sexually assaulted while taking trial of a dress by the salesman of a garment shop inside a hotel on Mall road under Cantonment police station on Tuesday late evening.The man was arrested on Tuesday, the Times of India reported.

Police arrested the accused salesman Durga Yadav after lodging an FIR against him under section 354 and 12 POCSO Act.Police said the man was charged under a section of the penal code dealing with assaults on women and a sexual harassment charge, which carries a maximum term of three years’ jail, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The girl student  was part of a school group from a college in Auckland visiting the city of Varanasi, which lies along the banks of the Ganges, in Uttar Pradesh.Early morning bathing in the Ganges.

According to reports, a group of girl students from a college of Auckland (New Zealand) had come to Varanasi on educational tour for the cultural studies. This group is staying at a hotel on Mall road. After site seeing this group returned to hotel on Tuesday evening when some students reached a garment shop located inside the hotel premises.After selecting some dresses a girl students started their trail when Durga allegedly sexually assaulted her. She reported the matter to her companions after which their tour guide made a complaint with hotel management and also Cantonment police. The circle officer Cantonment Rajkumar Yadav informed that taking note of this complaint an FIR was lodged immediately and police also arrested Durga

.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was following up the report, but it said the New Zealand High Commission in New Delhi has not been contacted for consular advice or assistance.  It was V very shameful ,spoiling the reputation of India ,apart from hampering India”s tourism business & bad name to our country  a  spokesman of India-NZ trade forum said at New Delhi
